After a period of not lacing up, it can be quite easy to slip out of the running routine. With the nights starting to draw out, what are you waiting for? Now is the best time to get motivated and become your best self. Here are some of the most common excuses you probably make…

1. There are not enough hours in the day: I don’t have time in the morning before work and anyway it’s dark. After work I’m tired and just want to get home and it’s dark again. I’ll go for a run on Saturday morning…

2. It’s Saturday morning and the sun is shining, but I’m tired from a busy week and a morning in bed is probably more beneficial than a run. There is always tomorrow morning…

3. It’s Sunday morning and raining. Also slightly hanging so better not go for a run, will be better to have a lie in. Maybe if it brightens up later…

4. It has stopped raining, but I’m not great at running in the afternoon after a big Sunday brunch. I’ll start the week with a proper training routine and fit in a run on my way to/from work tomorrow…

5. Monday afternoon at work and I’m having a good hair day due to spending some extra time straightening it this morning, using the time originally allocated for a run. Won’t run home; don’t want to get it all sweaty, as I’m going out on Tuesday evening…

6. Showers are broken at work and as previously mentioned am going out tonight (Tuesday), so not a good day for a run. I’ll fit one in towards the latter part of the week…

7. Over ‘hump day’ and think I’m coming down with something: Have read up on this and really shouldn’t run unless you’re 100%. Will wait to see if I’m feeling better tomorrow / the weekend…

8. Repeat point 1

9. Repeat point 2

10. How have I not fitted in one run all week?!! Blame work/showers at work/whoever gave me the cold/too good a social life/the weather. Next week, I’m all over it…
