Top 10 healthiest cities in the UK



Have you ever wondered if your post code correlates to your health? A recent survey undertaken by online property buying company Flying Homes, suggests that for modern Brits there are several different lifestyle choices depending on where you live.

Bristol has been found to be the most health-conscious city in the country, with 39% of residents flexing those muscles and exercising over three times a week. A stark contrast to Scotland, where a third exercise less than twice a week.

Norwich came out on top for being aware of the health warnings of smoking, as a staggering 91% of residents claim not to smoke, compared to 31% of Mancunians who have picked up the habit. Women are also less likely to smoke as 65% admit to not smoking, compared to 59% of men.

Scott Simpson, Director at Flying Homes says; “We live in such a health-conscious society, so it’s great to see that so many cities are creating a great example for future generations. Keeping fit and active, maintaining a balanced diet and cooking healthy meals from scratch are all key points that can help us become a healthier nation overall.”

A healthy human body is made up of over two-thirds of water, so it’s vital that the recommended two litres of water is drank every day. Liverpudlians came out top from the research, despite only 13% drinking the recommended seven to eight glasses of water a day.

Despite the assumption that the younger generation are the bigger drinkers, 18-24 year olds drink less than any other age bracket. A surprising 21% of 18-24 year olds drink two to six units of alcohol a week, compared to 29% of 45-54 year olds.

It seems men are the lazier of the sexes, with 32% of men admitting that the don’t cook healthy meals because of laziness, compared to only 24% of women.

When it comes to maintaining a balanced diet, the North comes out healthiest. An impressive 68% of people who live in Sheffield admit to eating a balanced diet, while over two thirds of Mancunians also claim a balanced diet. It’s Scotland and Northern Ireland where diets become lopsided with 50% of those from Edinburgh and 30% of Belfast’s population enjoying a well-rounded diet.
